40 Things I’ve Learned By Age 40

Today as I celebrate reaching this milestone in my life. I thought I would share some of what I’ve learned with my friends. Some health related, some not, but all of it relates to life. I hope you enjoy:

1)You can’t change anyone but you
2)Life is simply the moments and memories you create
3)Love is,what love does
4)You can’t please everybody, cause nobody will be happy, especially not you
5)At the end of the day sometimes all you have is family
6)Out of all the things I’ve been called; good or bad… My favorite is still… ‘dad’
7)You have to tote your brain around with you wherever you go, so you might as well use it
8) What you see is not always there; and sometimes what’s there, you don’t always see
9) The more time you spend minding other people’s business is less time you spend minding your own
10) We all have some issues; and if you don’t think so, then that’s your issue
11) Its extremely critical to think before you open your mouth…and end up inserting your foot
12) Once you say a thing it’s said and you can never take it back
13) What’s good to you is not always good for you
14) You show people how to treat you
15) Dont take yourself so flippin’serious all the time. Period.
16) You don’t always have to have the last word
17) Sometimes a loss is a win disguised as a lesson you needed to learn
18) Love is a verb
19) Take care of your body; it’s the only one you have. It takes more work to rebuild it, than it did to tear it down
20) Excuses impeded progress more than any other obstacle
21) Appreciate the seemingly little things in your life
22) Realize that 9 times out of 10 it’s probably not worth the stress
23) Exercise and healthy eating are much cheaper than therapy, hospital bills and medication.
24) Laughter really is the best medicine
25) When all else fails, pray. When it’s all going well, pray.
26) If you don’t know your purpose, I can tell you for certain; that it is to help someone else
27) Never forget the people who have had your back
28) A true friend is someone who will tell you the truth whether it hurts them to tell you or hurt you to hear it
29) On your birthday, don’t forget to thank your mom; without her you wouldn’t be here.
30) When you work for something; you tend to appreciate it more
31) You get what you accept
32) Decisions determine destiny
33) You can have everything and still be poor. You can be poor and still have everything
34) Money doesn’t buy happiness; it buys comfort (and pays bills)
35) By the time the story gets back to you; it’s almost never the original story
36) Keep your friends and your enemies close; you never know when they might switch places
37) Every time you can impact someone else’s life; you gain a small piece of immortality
38) Dont work so hard to gain material things; you can’t take any of it with you and when you die, someone else will get it (or fight over it) anyways
39) Every day you wake up is another opportunity to get it right
40) The gift of a birthday far outweighs any birthday gift you can ever receive

This journey is yours and yours alone. Don’t waste this precious time trying to make everyone else happy; because in the end the person that will be unhappy…
is YOU.
Besides, you can’t make someone be something that they don’t choose to be.
